The Irrationale Remains

In 1987, when they were 20 years old, Mathias and Susanne made an unsuccessful attempt to escape from the GDR while their best friend Suse remained in the country. They did not meet again until sixteen years later, when they were involved in the filming of Thorsten Trimpop´s documentary. The film accompanies the three of them as they return to the scenes of their common past. There is no exchange of experiences, though; the gulf between them is too great, as is their desire not to reopen old wounds.
