(Mah nakorn)
Wisit Sasanatieng / Thajsko, 2004
Thai version / Czech subtitles, 100 min
Shy country boy Pod sets off for Bangkok to find happiness. Soon he starts working in a fish-tin factory by the sardines line, where he accidentally loses his finger. He begins to wander the city in a desperate attempt to find the tin with his finger. And this is just a beginning of a surrealist fairy-tale full of absurd humour and visual mastery, accompanied by a massive use of digital effects, that transform the grey Bangkok into a city of bright, kitchy colours and strange places. The film refuses to take itself seriously, being laden with self-irony. As if it wanted to say: Laugh at me! Nevertheless it is also moving, original and witty.
