(Emmas Glück)
Sven Taddicken / NĚM, 2006
german / english and czech sub, 99 min
Car dealer Max receives bad news: he’ll soon die of cancer. He steals money and a Ferrari from his friend and boss, and plans to escape to Mexico but doesn’t make it very far. A wild car chase cuts his getaway short when the car flies over a sharp curve, forcing Max to take shelter on a nearby farm. Emma lives alone on her ancestors´ farm raising pigs. She lovingly raises the livestock, and slaughters them herself. The final cut leaves her with a tender feeling within herself, and her farm suffers because of this. Emma the owner of the farm hides Max, but not without any of her own selfish intentions: she had discovered the stolen money in the car. Bit by bit the eccentric pig farmer and the neurotic vegetarian are getting closer. Unashamed of any tragedy, Taddicken’s second movie comes across as rough, yet at the same time empathetic and comic. Main actors Jördis Triebel and Jürgen Vogel each received awards for their performances (Filmfest München and Bayerischer Filmpreis), and the film itself was nominated for the German Filmprize.
