Sin City

This already legendary animated series by comic book writer and artist Frank Miller takes place in the fictional metropolis of the title. With its rough lyricism it cannot disown taking loose inspiration from the writers of the hardboiled school (Mickey Spillane, Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett), Goseki Kojima and Kazuo Koike’s manga series Lone Wolf & Cub, and film noir. The movie version, which Miller codirected, breathes life into the narrative’s dark atmosphere, as well as into some of the book’s major figures. Revenge here becomes a key element, and the rugged loner Marv is after his lover’s murderer. Other important elements include the fate of Officer Hartigan who is trying to save an innocent victim from the clutches of a paedophile, and tough guy Dwight who’s trying to prevent open war between the police and a gang of prostitutes.
