The Cure are to be named NME Godlike Geniuses at the 2009 Shockwaves NME Awards, the band have also announced they’ll be headlining the annual Big Gig show.

Robert Smith and co are have confirmed they will headline the concert at London’s O2 Arena on Friday, February 26 – just 24 hours after receiving their award at the NME’s showpiece ceremony at London’s Brixton Academy on February 25 (2009).
