(Project Kashmir)
S. Khesghi, G. V. Patel / USA, 2008
original version / Czech and English subtitles, 88 min
Against the backdrop of the spellbinding beauty of Kashmir, the stories of people living in this unstable region help the viewer grasp the deep-rooted political, cultural and religious divisions that exist between Indian and Pakistanis. Both nations have been fighting one another over this slice of territory for over 60 years. In the making of this feature-length documentary about the conflict, directors Senain Kheshgi and Geeta V. Patel - both born in the US - saw their own friendship put to the test. When they began shooting together neither planned to become an actor in the documentary; rather they were aiming to foster dialogue and close the great divide between India and Pakistan. But when it comes to down to it, is it possible to disregard the fact that one is from a Pakistani Muslim family while the other has a Hindu background?
