(Memoria Del Saqueo)
Fernando Solanas / Arg, Fra, Švý, 2004
Spanish version with English subtitles, 120 min
More then 30 years after the famous film The Hour of the Furnaces (1968), Fernando Solanas continues in the analysis of the political and social situation in his country, that has truckled to a prolonged all-society crisis. From the author’s point of view, it is a consequence of a process of blind and ruthless globalization, ultraliberalism, political betrayal of the elected representatives and their corruption, all of which have destroyed the country that used to be rich and prosperous. The director reconstructs the national collective memory in ten chapters. He shows the complicated causes and effects of the collapse of the country. Similarly to The Hour of the Furnaces, Social Genocide is, in respect of cine liberación, a strong manifesto, that has an aim to show, to revive and bring a hope for a change. Fernando Solanas, a legend of Argentinean cinema, in the past banned director, now celebrated author of political poetry, will be present at the screening.
