Stake out

The case of Tetsuo Shinohara proves that Japanese independent cinema does not necessarily stand for an opposition to the mainstream. It merely means that the production is not supported by a major studio. Shinohara usually makes crowd-pleasing films based on bestselling novels and utilising traditional tropes of popular genres. In the manga-based Stake Out a detective comes to a housewife's apartment for a stake out. Soon, the housewife starts feeling uneasy with the talkative, insensitive and pushy man and starts to suspect whether he is a real detective.
