FAMU Evening

(Večer FAMU)
Tomáš Weinreb, Lukáš Kokeš, Jaroslav Kratochvíl / CZ , 2009
Czech version, 81 min

The film event where young FAMU filmmakers will present their films. During the evening the audience can watch 3 portraits: a quizzical maverick, an always unhappy man and a communist-idealist.

Director: Tomáš Weinreb Time running: 23´

Miroslav David lived with Olga Hepnarová six months before the (evil) act. Olga Hepnarová was a tiny young girl, who drove with truck car into a crowd of people in 1973 purposely. She killed eight people. She explained this act of aggression as an act of revenge for the wrong life, which she was forced to live in inhumane society. Film shows David as man, who is always disgruntled, disputed. But he is also quizzical maverick, who is thinking about the problems. Portrait of David as a schizoid counterpart of Olga Hepnarová. He suffered a lot, but he has sense of humor also today.

59/184/84 Director: Lukáš Kokeš Time running: 25'

A film add of the forever unhappy man with a fixed idea that "something is about to happen", always waiting for the moment to start to live, upholding his plain loner's existence with a belief that the destiny will at last make his dream of an ideal woman true, based on the biological right of love.

In vino veritas Director: Jaroslav Kratochvíl Time running: 33'

A portrait of Karel Jochmann, my grandfather, who “voluntarily and quite happily” joined the Czechoslovak Communist party in 1951 and is still a faithful member to these days. Through a blend of his own small and the official big politics of the Communist party, we follow a portrayal of people who started the party persuaded that “the party is working for people and only wants well-being for them” and who still hope that one day, communism will defeat all the lies and hatred.
