The Fearless Freaks

(Příšerky bez bázně a hany / The Fearless Freaks)
Bradley Beesley / USA, 2005
original version / Czech sub-subtitles, 100 min

Go to a Flaming Lips concert and this is what you might see: puppets and light shows, animal suits and theatrical blood, balloons and confetti. Watch Bradley Beesley's film and you will understand how these post-punk misfits from Oklahoma City have behaved themselves on the road to something like stardom since their founding in the early 80's. Compiled from 400 hours of footage and featuring feedback from their devoted fans of many stripes, one can't help but believe that the Flaming Lips are anti-heroes and that that frontman Wayne Coyne just might be a goofy kind of god himself. The fun music videos they made along the way were nothing like the mainstream but that's perfectly fine. And they have noisy clothes and bad hair.
