Tsai Ming-liang / F - RC - B - NL, 2008
French-Mandarin-English version / English subtitles / translated into Czech, 138 min
The last feature film by film festivals’ favorite Tsai Ming-liang is the result of an initiative by the Louvre Museum, which invites acclaimed filmmakers to realize their unique visions on the premises of the famous museum. The Taiwanese auteur used this opportunity to craft a symbolical picture about a filmmaker who comes to the Louvre to direct a film version of the opera Salome. The making of a film within a film intertwines with images of the inner world of the fictional director and his crew to create a chain of sensual visions and picturesque allusions in which Tsai Ming-liang expresses his love for cinema, especially its French tradition.
