Raymonda, a ballet from the series of the Russian Petipa's classics was inspired by the medieval environment with castles and knights. The young girl Raymonda is betrothed to the knight Jeanne de Brienne, but is kidnapped by the Saracen emir Abderachman. Finally love prevails and Jeanne de Brienne conquers Abderachman in the fight thanks to help of the White Lady, the patron of the Raymonda's family.
Marius Petipa created Raymonda (1898) at the end of his career as a mature artist in collaboration with young composer Alexander Glazunov. Raymonda is a masterpiece symbolic of the Petipa's choreographic style at its best, full of great pas de deux and corps de ballet scenes.
