Joe Berlinger, Bruce Sinofsky / USA, 2004
English / Czech subtitles, 139 min
Are you dreaming of becoming a heavy-metal star? In that case you should not miss this film - you'd better know what you're up to! Sex, drugs and rock'n'roll (or, more precisely, sex, drugs and heavy-metal) is a credo which attracts all age categories.
The film Metallica: Some Kind of Monster offers a fascinating insight into the lives of the members of the most famous heavy-metal band in the history of music. After twenty years of existence, the band faces immense personal and professional challenges while recording their newest album St. Anger, which comes five years after the last record. The relationships between the band-members have recently not been particularly sound. Since Metallica hasn't toured or recorded any album for several years, their fans have been worried about the band's future.
The documentary, which was being shot for two years, intimately captures the particular band-members - their inner demons, mutual relationships but also their attempts to adjust their personal lives to the demands of the ever-changing music industry.
