Le Havre

Aki Kaurismäki’s latest film focuses on the subject of illegal immigration to Europe, but keeps away from the serious and explores the problem in a lighthearted manner. Set in the port city of Le Havre in northern France, a bohemian writer-turned-shoe-shiner takes an illegal immigrant boy from North Africa under his wing, hiding him from the police with the help of the locals.
