Private Fragments of Bosnia

“When I finally came back home and saw my parents I almost did not recognize them. They changed a lot while I was away,” tells Svjetlana Sontag her best friend, director Claudia Tosi, after she returned to her native city Mostar. Svjetlana left Bosnia straight after the outburst of the war and was not able to meet her parents for twelve long years. Over this period of time she made a number of phone calls with Claudia. She talked about happy life in Mostar before the war, problems arising from getting settled in a new country and worries about the destiny of her relatives and friends during the war. In this unconventionally shot road movie, the director transposed the calls into an impressive commentary guiding us through poetically tuned and sometimes purposely repeating images from her journey across Bosnia. Unhealed scars of the landscape torn by war and still alive memories of interviewed people who suffered are tinged by melancholic music of an especially well done soundtrack. The partner of the evening is One world film festival.
