The Host

A unique mix of comedy, drama, action, horror and political satire revolves around a mutated monster terrorizing the banks of the Han River in Seoul. While the army and police are sealing the area off, the members of a dysfunctional family have to join forces to save their youngest one from the lair of the outlandish beast. But is the creature living in the sewers really the biggest threat which the heroes will have to face? Instead of the usual monster movie clichés Bong Joon-ho’s spin on the genre delivers an allegory for the tense geopolitical situation at that time. Even five years after its release The Host holds the record for all-time admissions in Korea.
