"But he did build the motorways ...", even today we still hear this praise of Hitler, however grudging. Altogether the film contradicts the long-standing legend connected with "Hitler's highways" (such as the elimination of unemployment). The autobahn remained a popular subject in magazines, popular novels, radio plays, poems and glossy picture books, is described today by Bitomsky as a "project of Potemkin-like dimensions". Bitomsky's film was awarded the Adolf Grimme Prize in 1987.
