(Super Size Me)
Morgan Spurlock / USA, 2004
English version / Czech subtitles, 100 min
Why are so many Americans fat? For thirty days did the director of this film live on nothing but McDonald’s food. If there was a supersize offer he was not allowed to turn it down. Same as most Americans, he didn’t move much. These rules were the starting point for the exploration of the situation in the USA where up to 40% kids are overweight and two out of three adults are fighting obesity. The director does not see these issues as personal problems, he reminds the viewer of the expenses spend on medical care, and most importantly he posits the question whether the main cause of the problem is not eating in fast food restaurants. The film has been widely appraised by viewers and has been nominated for an Oscar. Meanwhile McDonald’s came up with a new “light” salad menu which has almost as much calories as a Big Mac.
