(Opři žebřík o nebe)
Jana Ševčíková / CZ, 2014
Slovak version / Czech subtitles, 100 min
A burly man enters the crowded chapel. Under his priestly robe he wears a fleece jacket, his hands calloused from work. This is Marian, a priest from a small village in Eastern Slovakia. With great enthusiasm but also strict belief in the rightness of his actions, he runs a "hospital for souls" – a refuge for murderers, drug addicts and the homeless. The house rules are set in stone: newcomers must be sober, work hard every day and follow the Ten Commandments. This film by Jana Sevcikova balances human faith in oneself with faith in God, which offers at least a temporary resurrection of lost souls. Marian's controversial personality and his views on homosexuality have become the subjects of wide debate on the rights of gays and lesbians in Slovakia.
