(Callas)
John Ardoin / KAN, 1978
English version / Czech subtitles, 88 min
Maria Callas was undoubtedly the most infamous opera diva of the late twentieth century. This biographical portrait was made in 1978 and narrated by her friend and confidante, noted filmmaker Franco Zeffirelli. Weaving together a vast amount of material, including interview, performance, and newsreel footage, the film is perhaps the definitive portrait of her tempestuous life and peerless talents. The documentary does not shy from the more controversial aspects of Callas' life: her affair with Aristotle Onassis, her love-hate relationship with her manager and her notorious run-in with Luchino Visconti. A complete picture, from childhood in America to triumph at La Scala, but also passion, depression and an adoring audience.
Before screening will be shown a short film No Strings Attached.
