Hedwig and The Angry Inch

The plot revolves around Hansel alias Hedwig, transsexual band leader of The Angry Inch. Hansel is stuck in East Berlin until he falls in love with Luther, a US Soldier. They decide to marry, which allows Hansel to leave the GDR. But to get married the couple must be a man and woman. Hansel's mother Hedwig lends him her identity and finds a doctor to perform a sex change. The operation fails, leaving Hedwig with nothing but "a scar like a sideways grimace on an eyeless face" between her legs.
