Fingersmith

This melodrama from victorian England is based upon a novel by popular british author Sarah Waters. The plot is quite comlicated and almost all strain depends on the the story. Both of the leading actresses are excellent: Elaine Cassidy is known for instance from Atom Egoyan’s movie Felicia’s Journey, and Sally Hawkins from Tipping the Velvet – upon a Waters novel as well. The lesbian topic is not described as illegal, but the movie is about two girls who just don’t need everlastingly sly or useless men.
